New Casey County Hospital

expected to open next month

Administration building ready for use

By Donna Carman

Editor/General Manager

“State of the art” is the only way to describe the new Casey County Hospital, which is scheduled to open in just over a month.
Hospital board members, along with some administrators, officials and employees, were given a walk-through of the new facility Aug. 12 prior to the board’s monthly meeting.
The 40,000-square-foot, $20 million facility is scheduled to open the last week of September when patients will be moved from the current hospital, according to Administrator Rusty Tungate.
Once everything is moved to the new building, Tungate said demolition of the current hospital — originally built in 1945 — will get under way. He expects that, which is in Phase II of the project, to be completed by the end of October.

City hears request to close River Road

By Donna Carman
Editor/General Manager

A Liberty businessman came before the city council Wednesday night, asking that the city close a little-used road.
Todd Hoskins, who owns Miracle Car Wash on Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard, asked the council to consider closing River Road. He pointed out the road runs behind his business and from one end of the bypass to the other, even though it technically doesn’t exist in some places.
“The Casey County Bank’s parking lot actually sits on that road,” he said.
